Series Eight: Hardware Does Not Start the Design-It Completes the Composition
In today's design industry, there is growing discussion suggesting that decorative hardware should 'start' the interior design process. At Jazz & Riffs Hardware, we see it differently.
Hardware is not the beginning of the design story — and it should never be an afterthought at the end.
Exceptional interiors are created through composition.
The true foundation of interior design begins with the overall concept: the architectural vision, the textures, the materials, the lighting, and the carefully balanced palette of colors that together create emotion within a space. Decorative hardware becomes part of that composition — a finishing layer that helps unify, accent, and elevate the design theme.
Like jewelry in fashion, hardware should harmonize with the interior, not compete with it.
The Jazz & Riffs Hardware collections were created with this philosophy in mind.
Our Jazz Glass Collection works as part of the overall composition by accenting and harmonizing surrounding colors and materials. The glass captures the ambient tones within the room and reflects them naturally throughout the space. This approach supports what we call our 'Three-Color Rule' — allowing the hardware to visually connect and unify the surrounding interior palette.
The Riffs Glass Collection works differently.
Riffs introduce sparkle, movement, and ribbon-like reflections that interact with surrounding light. The glass creates shifting visual effects that bring energy and depth to cabinetry and architectural surfaces. Much like crystal accents within a room, Riffs become a subtle source of light and movement within the interior environment.
Both collections are designed to help pull the interior concept together in their own unique ways.
That is why we refer to Jazz & Riffs Hardware as:
'Architectural Jewelry' Professional interior designers and architects understand how materials, textures, lighting, and details work together to achieve a complete design vision. Our role is to help support that vision with handcrafted hardware that contributes to the overall composition of the space — not simply decorate it.
At Jazz & Riffs Hardware, hardware is not the beginning of the design, it is part of the artistry that completes it
